Records Are a Fun and Profitable Hobby

There is so much to do in the world of collecting albums. It seems that everyone is trading and buying artist from days long gone. But few people know the value of some of the more niche groups of record collecting.

For instance you don’t have to spend thousands on old Elvis albums to have a great collection. The best way to grow your collection is slowly and get what you enjoy. One of the most overlooked groups in this arena is The Monkees. Most people remember them as a second rate Beatles want to be band with a kids TV show. But they were much more than just a two season comedy series. Their movie, “Head”, had far out cameos from Frank Zappa to Jack Nicholson. Nicholson produced this movie and took the profits from it to fund the legendary “Easy Rider”.

Also another odd member of this type of record collecting is Rick Springfield. Way before he sung about “Jessie’s Girl”, he was an Australian guitarist in a group called Zoot. These albums are hard to come by and once you get one, try to get it autographed and watch the value sky rocket. Springfield also has a few early seventies albums that are hard to come by, but might not be worth as much.

So remember, not everyone has to have Rolling Stones vinyl or Beach Boys record albums in order to have an amazing and worthwhile collection. Some of the more unusual artist Pere Ubu or Joy Division can make for a great collection just like their more famous counterparts. In fact if all you bought where rare Rolling Stones vinyl, your collection might lose some pizzazz.

Oh, and we can’t forget the amazing women out there who are also in high demand. Now everyone knows of artist like Eartha Kitt or Diana Ross and you may think this is the direction to go. However scarcity can be of more value than age when it comes to these ladies record albums worth. Some more obscure songstresses like Anita Lane, The Slits or Miles’s better half, Betty Davis, might catch a few more dollars due to the fact that there are only a few in mint shape. Plus some of these ladies are still around and if you get them signed you have at least doubled their worth.

Just always keep in mind that this is not only an investment but something you can have fun with. When you put on an old Monkees album and listen to a rare song like “What Am I Doing Hangin’ ‘Round”, you can’t help but smile and dance with it. Or when was the last time you heard a sultry version of “Sexual Healing” like the one whispered out by Anita Lane.

Enjoy your record albums and new hobby!
